My journey with Brain Gym ®

My journey with Brain Gym ® started after the birth of my second child, I experienced a lot of lower back pain and neck aches.  I used to get massages and chiropractic work done, and the results were always temporary.  Someone told me I should see a kinesiologist, and it was really new in those days – about 25 years ago.  I decided to give it a try and came out of there feeling absolutely fantastic.  I had no more back pain or neck aches or anything, and it was just very simple techniques. I wanted to learn more about it, but since it was new to Australia there weren’t that many people trained to teach kinesiology yet, and you’d have to basically attend workshops put on by speakers from overseas. I went to as many as I could to learn more.

A frew years later, I attended a workshop that was about Brain Gym ®, which is about educational kinesiologyBrain Gym ® was introduced by Dr. Paul Dennison in the States. He had been using Brain Gym ® to help children with learning difficulties and had tremendous results, so I was quite excited about it. At that time, my son was having troubles at school with learning. He was a bright child,  but I needed to know more so I could better help him. So I did the workshop, and from then on that just helped – we uncovered the learning blockages that we both had.

So that was the beginning of my involvement with helping children overcome learning difficulties. I then started to practice with my friends and everything, and people were starting to get good results from what I was doing. So I decided there’s something really good about this, and as I did more and more training and became a Brain Gym ® instructor, I started teaching the Brain Gym ® courses, started to do consultations, I started to see tremendous results in people of all ages, so it wasn’t just children that it could help. I was actually working more with adults in the beginning, but now I’m working with lots of children and helping them improve their learning.

Brain Gym ®
is a set of exercises that integrate the left and right sides of the brain.  The exercises actually integrate all the different primitive reflexes and stimulates the brain – which results in increased concentration, improved learning, improved speech, coordination, and memory.  The Brain Gym ® exercises calm the body down, and then it allows you to get ready for learning.

Many of the children are very anxious about learning, so when I work with children, I’m basically reprogramming the mind and body to a new positive way of responding to learning. Rather than responding in a anxious way, or with negative thoughts about, “I can’t do this,” or, “I’m not good enough,” we change the patterning of thinking in the whole mind and in the whole brain and body and change it to a new way of thinking- when we use Brain Gym ® we are programming the whole mind and the brain and body together.
